I have always loved Paris and the French language, but when I was a kid Stevie Wonder’s classic song, “My Cherie Amour,” embarrassed the hell out of me. It means “my darling love.” My parents named me “Sheri” with the French pronunciation, meaning “darling,” but everyone except for my mother called me “Sherry.” People would sing that song to me, and I would cringe.
